What is my 'Career Pathway'?
Career Pathways
What is the ‘Career Pathway’ function
Career moves are a way to visualise where you can go next in your career based on your current role, skills, experience, and how people like you have progressed through their careers - exclusively using jobs within your organisation.
Why did TalentMapper create the ‘Career Pathway’
We created this visualisation to help users better their understanding of available career paths. These paths should serve as a roadmap to leverage meaningful career growth conversations with line managers, as well as to hone in on the specific skills you should develop to move forward.
What does the visualisaton represent?
Each ‘band’ within the graph represents a specific role you can go into. A wider bar represents a more ‘common’ career move based on your work experience and skills.
How does the career matching algorithm work?
Your profile represents an overview of: your current role, your previous roles, and the skills you have developed in your time across those roles. These skills are considered, alongside ‘common’ career moves made across industries, to create suggested career moves you would be a good match to.
TalentMapper was not designed to only show linear moves. For example; if you are an ‘Operations Manager’, the next ‘move’ within your industry may traditionally be to ‘Senior Operations Manager’. Although this move will likely show (due to your transferable skills and the career move being common), the algorithm will also make suggestions away from your current ‘linear’ pathway or ‘department’. The algorithm was built in this way to help organisations and individuals discover untapped talent.
N.b. The algorithm works on an n+1 rule: i.e., you will only be recommended roles at your pay grade, or one grade above. You will not be shown roles two levels above your current role (unless you are viewing future moves, see below).
Can I view future moves beyond my next role?
Yes! This section of the platform is interactive. If you click through to a suggested role, the graphic below will also show you suggested future roles so you are able to look two steps ahead of your current role.
